Irvin isn t having the best rookie campaign. In eight starts, he owns an abysmal 5.25 ERA and a 1-3 record in 36 frames. The strikeout to walk numbers are also very concerning as you can see above. He s not generating many swings and misses and opposing lineups are just hitting him around.
However, Irvin has something to build on. He contained Luis Arraez and the Marlins on June 17th to one run on four hits in five innings of work, allowing just two free passes and striking out four. Irvin also pitched against Arizona just over two weeks ago, lasting four innings after surrendering four runs, with three of them being earned.
